A world without wires – that’s a nice thought isn’t it? Bluetooth has longed promised the notion of a personal area network but it never really caught on. However after years of languishing in the background while other networking standards such as 802.11b and g flourished, Bluetooth seems ready to make an impact on the technology scene. Many PDAs and cell phones now include Bluetooth support. This will allow you to use Bluetooth headsets to communicate wirelessly to the cell phone or connect PDAs to PCs wirelessly. There are many types of pairings that can exist when it comes to Bluetooth – you just need to make sure Bluetooth profiles exist for the devices in question. Bringing Bluetooth support to the PC desktop has been rather slow since Microsoft chose not bundle Bluetooth support into Windows XP. Over the last year there have been a variety of Bluetooth adapters that brought support to the Windows platform but none can make as big of an impact as the Logitech diNovo Media Desktop can. This keyboard and mouse combination uses Bluetooth to communicate to the desktop PC. However the real innovation lies in the mouse charging base – it is also a full featured Bluetooth Wireless Hub. This hub coupled with a very capable Bluetooth software stack from Logitech provides desktops all over with the capabilities of pairing up with a multitude of Bluetooth enabled devices. Let’s take a look at the diNovo Media Desktop.
