Review of the Gyration Ultra Cordless Optical Suite

1. Introduction

For those of you who have Home Theater PC setups (HTPCs), you'll know the usefulness of having a wireless keyboard and mouse. In fact, many desktop users are also finding that wireless is the way to go for their peripheral devices. Who needs all the wires? In many cases, the Logitech Cordless Freedom Optical Suite has been the way to go for many of you. Today, I'll finally get a chance to go over a new competitor in this field. We saw a glimpse of it last month with the Gyration Ultra Mouse review. This time around, we complete the package with the Mobile Keyboard in the Gyration Ultra Cordless Optical Suite.

1.1 Specifications

The Gyration Ultra Cordless Optical Suite is essentially the Gyration Ultra Mouse bundled with their Mobile Keyboard. Both devices are useful for up to a 25 foot radio range. You can also buy their high end Mobile Keyboard separately which will support a 100 foot radio range.

The basic package comes with the keyboard, mouse, RF receiver, charger cradle for the mouse, AC adapter, and four AAA batteries for the keyboard. Manuals for both the keyboard and mouse are included as well as a nice colorful guide showing the installation of both the mouse and keyboard.

1.2 Packaging

The two components are packaged in basically a similar package as the Gyration Ultra Mouse package I received last month. The biggest difference of course is the inclusion of the keyboard. I ordered the keyboard and mouse directly from Gyration's store though you should be able to find this suite at many computer vendors.
